this commercial is really funny i think its so interesting what companies think is attractive to men. basically its fast cars and women with a sassy attitude.
I chose this artist because he speaks to me in a language i know clearly and that is pen and ink and print. He uses these two techniques to make portraits as well and abstract pieces that show the dirt and grime of older eastern block countries including his home country the Czech republic.
The show at midway was really great to see. The work was or all types of medium including pen and ink, sculpture and video. It was great to see an artist not be constricted by one medium and to show his work with a singular message. i really loved the pen and ink piece represented because of the "sketch" quality. It looks like the artist sat down with no intention of making any one thing and finished with something beautiful and frightening. The employees at the gallery where also really interesting as well. They opened me up to something that is now a big part of my life, modern african art. It is interesting to see how african artists are relating to other countries and other artists around the world. Africa is a place that is very different from our own and the views and lifestyles represented in african art are also very different and interesting. I would suggest looking at the artist coco fusco she has inspired my work as of late and taken me in a totally different direction than i was going before simply put a great artist.
The piece i chose at the walker is "Study for Monument of Metamorphoses" by tetsumi kudo. This piece is basically a map and an area is highlighted giving a detail or the piece. the medium looks to be marker or pen and ink. After researching this artist i learned that kudo was most active in Paris and of course japan. He was not recognized in the US until his current exhibition at the walker. Most of his work is pen and ink but he was also a very active sculpture maker exhibiting over 55 pieces throughout the world. this information helps me put this piece into context and i now understand the message behind the piece. he is highlighting his home area in japan showing how he has moved from his home country to western countries. this meaning is very clear now after my research . most of kudo's work is about metamorphases and travel. this is an interesting topic for me because i can see how some one's life would be completely taken over by their travels throughout the world. I could loose myself traveling and this is something that i have wanted to do for a long time. The idea that one could leave the whole world behind and be a rambling traveler has always been appealing to me. file:///Users/student/Desktop/images.jpeg
This was so cool. I had never seen it before. It looks pretty cool in pictures, but in real life it's like every different kind of fun house mirror in one. Plus it's huge. There were so many people there.
Looking at the art of African American Artists - and how their work changes cultural perceptions of different cultures and how art can identify itself, and define itself outside of the assumed cultural stereotypes.
Art as a Catalyst for social change in cultural perception!
This is a super good movie. It's not all fast and actiony but it's quite brilliant. Starring Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey as the AI robot (Gerty) on the moon base with Sam. There are no other people there at all.
Sam battles with holding on to his sanity while mistrusting what he has been told by Gerty and his bosses. He is desperately lonely because he has been there for almost 3 years. In two weeks his contract is up and then he'll get to go home.
Unfortunately there is an accident with the machinery and everything goes downhill.
